Red Alert 3 On Hold for PlayStation 3

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

Bad news for PlayStation 3 (PS3) owners. Electronic Arts have confirmed that they are putting Red Alert 3 on hold for PlayStation 3. They didn’t give any reason and they haven’t given a hint that whether they might want to continue with the development for PS3 or not.

PlayStation 3

EA is focusing more on PC and Xbox and are hoping to ship it by the end of the year. Ironically, I think PlayStation3 has been bashed since this came out after Sony Cancelled two games “The Getaway and Eight Days” for PlayStation 3.

The developers of Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures have apologized for the breast reduction in the females models of the game. The players complained about this problem after experiencing a change in the size of the breasts while playing the game (Talk about Geeks of the extreme level).

The developers of the game, Funcom said that this was because of a few changes in the morphing of models and it was unintentional they said that it would be back to normal in a short period of time and the game models would get their original boobs back.

Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures Review

Friday, June 6th, 2008

The new Fantasy Online RPG Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures is out on the PC and its turned out to be quite a good game. The game is quite mature and based on bit more violent game play as compared to other fantasy games. The game play also introduces a more interactive way of combat rather than just selecting a move from list of moves then clicking with the mouse on it we have to perform those moves by making a proper combination. The Age of Conan has provided beautiful landscapes with lush green grass and corpses lying all over giving a complete mature look. Here is a video review of the Game to let you see everything for your self.

Prince of Persia 4 is cell shaded – Gaming | Anime Fans, time to jump :)

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Prince of Persia 4 looks really amazing… they have totally changed the graphics and everything and now Prince of Persia 4 is cell shaded (looks like a Manga anime)

Some Info on Prince of Persia 4:

  • Corrupted world needs to be healed.
  • Story is much more “1001 Nights”-like, more fantasy, less grounded in reality but instead more magical yet still credible, more poetic.
  • Player must unleash light-wells to heal the corrupted world, which shoots light into the sky, reminiscent of SotC and Okami.
  • The transformation of the world is in real-time, with plants growing back to life as the world heals back and as the player can still move, instead of a mere cutscene, sky changes back to its normal color, etc., to give a strong sense of control and success to the player.
  • No more time rewind and such.
  • They are no making a second Assassin’s Creed, they are making a new PoP.
  • Art style was difficult pass through the management, but they never refused it, and eventually loved it.
  • Story specifically: Orhmaz and Arhiman, twin gods, one good one evil, celestial battle, Orhmaz locks Arhiman away in a box which he hides into an faraway oasis deep within a desert. Centuries pass, and comes a troublesome thief (the prince) and Arhiman is freed somehow (not deep explanation given). Prince must undo his mistake. This is what they refer to as a more “1001 Nights” kind of story, like a fable.
  • More open/organic environments. Has a Zelda-esque feel, old-school in themes.
  • Bosses/player use backgrounds during fights (one shot shows an enemy pushing the prince against a wall as if trying to choke him, or another throwing him in the air).
  • Game went through a few iterations; originally too open (felt big but not enough to do), at one point it was more like Assassin as far as open world (going where you want), but players would get lost and wander aimlessly and dynamism suffered as a result. Now instead it is more focussed with a clear road, but multiple paths can be taken (free to move from one map to another, back and forth, etc., more open than previous PoPs).
  • The demo map shown to the journalist, old of a few months, has been scrapped design-wise because it was too Assassin-like, now it’s more fantasy design-wise.
  • Game world is made of nodes connected by paths, and you can go from one node to another as you wish (this is what they mean by less open, but non-linear; you can see the paths, but you don’t have to going from A to B to C). The game adapts as a result (enemies from later visited locations might be more difficult, etc., for example zone A might be more difficult if you access it at the end, but if you accessed it at the beginning then it is easier, even bosses, depending on what order you fight them, adapt as such).
  • Prince can slide along any walls using his glove. Game is as much vertical as horizontal.
  • Prince has more possibilities of movement.
  • Bosses inspired by MGS’ boss quality; they are fewer but they have a story, a reason to be, they leave more of an impression on the player. Some are former nobles, sometimes acting against their will.
  • They wondered if they should make just more enemies and try to do a God of War game and try to beat it on its own ground, or go for something different. They went with fewer enemies instead and a new combat style. Combats are duels. You can see the expression on the faces of the characters/bosses. Movement/action in fights is more like Advent Children, more cinematic in presentation.
  • 140 people working on it, more to come, people from many projects.

GTA 4 – The begining of Violence in real life?

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

GTA 4GTA 4 Showing violence in real already? Daily Mail covered a story at the launch of the ultra-violent Grand Theft Auto IV video game. It descended into real-life horror when a man was stabbed repeatedly in a queue of fans waiting to buy it. Shoppers thought they were witnessing a promotional stunt for the launch when the blood-soaked victim staggered among them. They realized the attack was genuine only when police arrived. It took place outside the Gamestation store in Croydon, South London, one of 40 stores which opened at midnight to sell the new game.

Elsewhere, two muggers shattered the jaw and nose of an 18-year-old boy to steal his copy of the game just 30 minutes after he bought it in Leyland, Lancashire.

The violence intensified a chorus of criticism aimed at the British-designed game, the latest in a hugely controversial series.

Massive industry hype has surrounded its technological advances and stunning graphics and it is forecast to break records by selling six million copies in its first week.

But the content is unadulterated violence. Players assume the identity of Niko Bellic, a shaven-headed veteran of the Bosnian conflict who arrives in ‘Liberty City’ as a gangland novice.

He makes progress by killing people to order, robbing banks and dealing drugs with the help of an almost inexhaustible arsenal.

The game has been give an 18 certification from the British Board of Film Classification but critics fear it will inevitably be played by much younger people.

The series has sold an estimated 70million copies since its launch in 1997, but has been shrouded in controversy.

Last year teenager Ezekiel Maxwell butchered a grandmother after hearing “gangster voices” in his head from an earlier version of the game telling him to stab a woman.

Yesterday, as police issued an appeal to find the Croydon attacker, witnesses described what happened.

Malcolm Critchell, queueing with his nephew Jordan, said: “The victim was covered from shoulder to belly in blood. Everyone thought it was a show to promote the game.”

Despite his wounds, the 23-year-old victim is believed to have gone home to arm himself with a kitchen knife to seek revenge, but police intercepted him.

He was treated in hospital for several stab wounds.

Another queuer, Marcus Henderson, 24, said: “It was a scene straight from the game itself. In Grand Theft Auto, when you attack someone but don’t finish them off they’ll come and get you. We thought it was a stunt put on by the makers of the game.”

MP Keith Vaz said of the video game: “This kind of violence should be deplored. It’s highly likely that younger children are going to get access to this game.

“A young person’s mind is impressionable and the interactive violence of Grand Theft Auto is going to have an impact on them.”
